Alright... I am going to delve into a different realm tonight: relationships. Me? I have never been in one, and I do not plan on being in one any time soon; I am not mature nor responsible enough to upkeep a relationship. But here are some things that I think all guys and gals of all ages should know.
1) Respect. You, no matter what your gender, need to have respect. Respect others decisions, respect their space and time. They will not be able to talk/hangout with you constantly, everyday. They may not want to. Also, do things that edify and build them up. Don't tear them down because you had a bad day... remember: Jesus never had an off day either :)
2) Modesty. This is just as big a problem with guys as it is with girls. Everyone makes a big deal about short shorts, and tank tops, and ripped backs, etc. And they are right, it IS immodest and doesn't help the whole lust situation. But guys wear ripped sleeves, tight fitting shirts, low hanging shirts, pretty much anything that will show muscle or chest. And this isn't appropriate either. We are the Body of Christ, aren't we supposed to support each other? Why cause others to sin for selfish gain?
3) Selflessness. Just put others before yourself. PLEASE. Open the door for anyone, regardless of how long you gotta wait there. You have TIME. It'll be ok :) Give a lady your chair. Help people out. Offer to buy someone's food in line behind you. Any of these things are simple enough, and show God's love in a massive way! Even just smiling and waving at a stranger can save a life.
4) Prayer. Pray with each other, pray for each other. Your relationship will be much stronger if you have alone prayer time, as well as together prayer time. Even if it is short, God doesn't care how your prayer sounds. He just cares that your prayer SOUNDED.
5) Christ Centered. If Christ is more loved than your significant other, your other will become more significant ;) . That is, you will love each other more and more as you grow in your love for Jesus!!
Whether you are looking to date, are dating, are engaged, or are married (or even single) all of these things apply. But carry it outside your relationship! Treat others respectfully, modestly, and selflessly, have a deep prayer life, and live with Christ at the center. He will surely bless and keep you all your days! I don't do religion. Its not about rules and law. I do relationships.
