December 14, 2014

Man guys, how great is it that we get to watch painted sunsets and sunrises, no matter where we are?

Beauty is all around us. We see it every day without recognizing its weight or glory. Its found in the vastness nature, in the eyes of a child, and in the heart of a soldier. For me, personally, the most beautiful time is when snow is falling, the clouds are grey, the trees are barren, and the grass is covered. Then there are no colors but neutral ones, and it encourages introspection. Its cold and chilly, and that encourages warmth and comfort. With all the free time you have when snow is falling, cookies are baked, pies are made, and jokes cracked like no other. And THATS a beautiful sight.

Because perhaps the most beautiful thing we could ever hold is a relationship. And every relationship has three parts: a lover, an object of the love, and the love itself. Kinda like the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit, huh? After all, God IS love. Beauty is found not in outward appearance, but the heart. And not just the heart; beauty is a measure of value we place on someone or something. Every husband says (or at least should say) that their wife is the most beautiful woman in the world. And they'd be right! Because the individual, personal value they place on their lady's heart is greater than all others!

Beauty is found in love. In a selfless choice to live for another over yourself. And God IS love, and that makes Him beautiful. And He loves us, which is why He views us as beautiful! And here's a cool thought: He loves us so much that when He created this world, His love MANIFESTED itself into beautiful things, like a sunrise or sunset or snowy day. He knew we would value these things in a similar way to the way He values us; our concept of beauty is a metaphor for His love for us.

He loves us more than anything!! Which is why He finds us beautiful. Us, dirty filthy sinful humans, are beautiful in His sight. Not because beauty is a fixed, physical measure but because beauty is derived from the value placed on someone or something. Beauty, in human standards, is subject to change as what we value changes, but God, being constant, will always place the most value on us, His beautiful creation. And His measure of beauty on us is a symbol of His love for us, which is even greater! After all, He sent His Son to die for us in our stead.

Beauty and love; two abstract ideals that are so very tightly intertwined that it is hard to have one without the other. And BOTH result in manifestations of themselves; be it an act of weather or a personal relationship with our Lord and Savior! #LiveItLikeJesus
