We are always representing our God in metaphors. The Bread of Life. The Living Water. A lion, a lamb, a son, a father, a craftsmen. Our God is all of these, yet none of these. Metaphors help us understand ONE facet of our infinitely facted God. We cannot hope to understand Him, we can only grasp at straws. Our God isn't confined to metaphors; He is raw, unrelenting power. The power of love. His love coarses out of Him, a rushing river till it hits the heart in our chests with the force of a speeding freight train. But there I go again using metaphors.

How can we understand Him? His ways are not our ways! His thoughts are not our thoughts! How can we hope to even glimpse a small fraction of His majesty? He is bigger, stronger, mightier than anything else; a lion. He is meeker, humbler, more subservient than any created being; a lamb. He follows, He leads, He encourages. But its all about love, and our relationship with Him; He woos, He rescues, He cherishes. He screams how much He loves YOU. He tells everyone He can find in a rushed voice how beautiful His bride is; a Son. He stands at the place of power and directs all of heaven and earth, all that He has made; a Father. He does not need you, or anything you can give Him, but He is DESPERATE for you. His heart breaks for you. He is filled with rage at anything that might take your heart from Him, but only weeps for your return because although He has the power to stop you, He needs you to CHOOSE His love. Love is a choice, not a feeling nor an act.

If only we could see our God's love for us.
